While still a Ph.D. student, Pappas began teaching as an adjunct at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. By the time he joined the faculty there in 2011, shortly after graduating with his Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology, the transition was so smooth, he says, “it felt like a constant flow.” This spring, thanks to a prestigious award conferred by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Dr. Pappas begin a two-year  research fellowship at the renowned L’Institut Pasteur, in the heart of Paris, collaborating with leading scientists in Europe.
