In March, Maribel Giraldo, M.S., joined the purchasing team as assistant director of procurement services for New York Medical College (NYMC) and the Touro College and University System (TCUS). Reporting to Adam Hammerman, M.B.A., vice president and chief financial officer, and Wanda Hernandez, executive director of operations and procurement, Ms. Giraldo will promote and contribute to the growth of the College by enhancing student systems, improving operational efficiencies and reducing costs.
Having spent the past decade working in higher education procurement services, Ms. Giraldo brings her extensive purchasing and leadership experience to the College.
“Working in higher education has always been a thrilling and rewarding experience. I am filled with great pride and joy knowing that I am part of an institution that pioneered the movement to admit and graduate women and students of color before any of its counterparts in the nation,” Ms. Giraldo says. “Accordingly, I am drawn to and identify with the mission of the College to continue to promote diversity that is more representative of the multicultural world that we presently live in.”
In her previous role as director of purchasing at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Ms. Giraldo specialized in cost reduction and process improvement. Her areas of expertise include negotiations, operations management, project management, budget planning, best practices and strategic analysis. Ms. Giraldo's focus on operational excellence and disciplined execution has enabled her to bring about significant operational cost controls. Ms. Giraldo holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Master of Science from the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
“I believe that my background in purchasing closely matches the role’s requirements at NYMC and TCUS and I welcome the chance to explore new opportunities to continue to grow personally and professionally,” she says. “Ultimately, I am hoping to always make a positive impact on the organization and the community I serve.”
