The New York Metropolitan Area has three main airports: LaGuardia (LGA), Kennedy (JFK) and Newark (EWR). LaGuardia Airport is about 45 minutes from campus. Kennedy and Newark are both approximately one hour from campus. Car/limousine service is available from these airports. Check fares in advance for best results, and keep in mind travel time varies with traffic. More information is available on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey website.

Metro-North Railroad runs trains from Grand Central Station in Manhattan to the White Plains or North White Plains stations on the Harlem Line. Train schedules and fares are available on the Metro-North website. Train fare prices vary by time and there is a surcharge when buying on the train so we recommend purchasing in advance. The train ride is one hour and the taxi ride to campus is about 10 minutes.

Taxis are usually readily available at the White Plains Train station. If you are arriving at the Valhalla or North White Plains train stations, it may be necessary to call a cab

Bus Services

The Bee-Line System runs local buses from Metro-North train stations and other locations around Westchester County. For schedule or fare information call (914) 682-2020. More information is available on the Bee-Line System website.

Practicing in the Region

NYMC’s location in Westchester County provides a large and highly diverse catchment area with plenty of opportunities for your residencies, internships, and clinical and applied practice. For School of Medicine students, our local affiliate hospitals are some of the finest in the tri-state area, offering exceptional clinical training and experience with diverse populations. 

Our close ties with local public health commissioners, research projects involving area institutions, and service opportunities that include volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley and homeless shelters offer students in all three of our schools a unique chance to put their learning into practice, conduct research, or interact with patients and professionals in preparation for their future careers.

Visiting NYMC

All visitors to campus must check in at the Office of Public Safety located in the Basic Sciences Building upon arrival. A security officer will provide you with a campus map, register you for the day, and direct you towards parking.

Due to the high volume of applicants, we can only allow invited School of Medicine prospects to visit our campus. School of Health Sciences and Practice and School of Biomedical Sciences applicants are welcome to schedule a visit by phone.
