The Transformative Education Leadership Program (TELP)
The Transformative Education Leadership Program (TELP) was designed to combat Systemic Racism and Implicit Bias through Medical Education. We select students to undergo intensive training aimed at developing the leadership skills needed to address bias and racism in medicine.
The training will be led by:
- Pamela Ludmer, M.D., M.M.E.L., SOM associate dean for curriculum integration and chair of the NYMC Anti-racism, Anti-bias and Health Inequities Steering Committee
- Mill Etienne, M.D., M.P.H. ’02, vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion and SOM associate dean of student affairs.
TELP was created through a grant awarded by the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society in 2021 to support an education leadership program, led by NYMC School of Medicine (SOM) students, to combat systemic racism and implicit bias in medical education. Since then, there has been overwhelming positive feedback among students, faculty, and standardized patients.
Sessions take place throughout the summer and are held on Zoom. Topics covered are:
- Leadership Overview
- Leading Change
- Emotional Intelligence
- Navigating Difficult Conversations
- Team Dynamics
- Decision Making and Biases
Those interested in joining should fill out our TELP application. The deadline to apply is 9:00 a.m. on May 30.
