Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs

The Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs is committed to upholding the mission of diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging in all matters related to faculty and the culture of the College community in which we work. This includes facilitating academic appointments, promotions, tenure, and emeriti awards, as well as recruitment, retention, and development of School of Medicine (SOM) faculty through annual performance reviews and assessment of faculty development needs and institutional resources.

Policies regarding academic freedom, ethics, responsibility, tenure, and promotion are uniformly applied to all faculty members, both current and prospective, fostering a culture defined by collaboration, integrity, accountability, and mutual respect.

Faculty excellence in teaching and learning, mentoring, research, and diversity and inclusion is recognized through departmental merit pool awards determined in collaboration with the academic department chairs.

To enhance academic excellence and to support the faculty’s continuous growth as teachers, mentors, and educational scholars, the Office of Faculty Development provides a variety of on-campus and virtual faculty professional development activities, curated supportive resources, and access to mentorship programming.

SOM/GSBMS Faculty Handbook

The SOM/Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Faculty Handbook (“Handbook”) summarizes general guidelines related to institutional policies and procedures pertinent to college governance. It is not intended to be comprehensive nor to address all the possible applications of, or exceptions to, the official policies and procedures of New York Medical College (NYMC), including but not limited to the policies outlined in the NYMC Employee Handbook. Faculty who are employees of NYMC are also subject to the NYMC Employee Handbook and should familiarize themselves with its contents. Some of the topics described in this Handbook are covered in detail in official policy and procedure documents of the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate as well as the Faculty By-Laws. This Handbook is not written to confer any rights or privileges on faculty or impose any obligations on NYMC.

You can find the handbook on the For Faculty page.
