Non-Degree & Visiting Students

Non-Matriculated Students

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBMS) offers limited opportunities for non-matriculated (non-degree seeking) students, with a potential pathway to matriculation if desired. Non-matriculated students may enroll in up to two courses (8 credits) per semester, with a maximum lifetime limit of 12 credits. The GSBMS dean may waive this credit limit if sufficient justification is provided. The GSBMS welcomes non-matriculated students during the summer, fall, and spring terms. Before applying, please review our course schedules to confirm that the course you wish to take is available during your preferred term.

Submit your application as a non-matriculated student through Touro's Online Application System. Non-matriculated students are not eligible for student housing, financial aid, student health insurance, or access to student health services.

The application deadlines are as follows: May 1 for the summer term, June 30 for the fall term, and December 1 for the spring term.

How to Become a Matriculating Student

Students in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or higher) who wish to matriculate (enroll in a degree-granting program) should apply to their desired program before completing the 12-credit limit. This process requires submitting a new application. Previously submitted transcripts and test scores may be reused if they remain on file with GSBMS. However, new letters of recommendation are required. While letters from faculty members of the target program may be included in the application, they do not replace the requirement of two additional letters from professors or professionals outside the program.

Visiting or Exchange Students

To apply, you must complete Touro’s Online Application and include a statement explaining the purpose of your intended activity at NYMC. Under the Program Selection tab, choose Degree Type = Non-Matriculating, and select the desired Department/Program.

Required supporting documents include:

  • An official academic transcript from the student’s home university.
  • A letter from the student’s dean certifying that the student is in good standing and that the proposed activity will count toward fulfilling their degree requirements.
  • A letter from the NYMC faculty sponsor outlining the proposed activity and estimating the duration of the student’s stay at the College.

If applicable, you must also submit the necessary paperwork for obtaining a student visa (F-1) or visiting scholar/student visa (J-1).
