Our Rigorous Accelerated Masters Program in Interdisciplinary Basic Medical Sciences

This is not a post-baccalaureate program in the traditional sense; it is considered an academic enhancer for students who wish to improve their credentials and preparedness for admission to medical school after they have completed the pre-med requirements. While there are many schools of biomedical sciences, there are several compelling reasons so many talented, dedicated and hard-working students choose to study at New York Medical College’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. We are:

• Effective: This is a 32 credit Master’s degree program which includes a literature review, not a certificate program or a repeat of undergraduate courses. The didactic portion of the program includes attending several medical school classes and is completed in 10 months. The literature review completes the Master’s degree.
• Selective: As the AMP is highly rigorous, admission is very competitive and limited to only 15-25 students per year. NYMC has a faculty to student ratio of 2-1. This allows our faculty advisors to work closely with the students to ensure they meet the degree requirements and provide them with comprehensive guidance concerning their applications to medical school. Our Admissions Criteria are as follows:
  • Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.1, including a 3.1 GPA in math and science courses
  • A minimum total MCAT score falling in the range of the 70th percentile
  • Clinical/research experience
  • Zoom interview
• Connected: Students in the AMP program (or who have recently completed the program) who seek admission into the NYMC School of Medicine will be conditionally admitted as long as they meet certain requirements. See here for more details.
• Successful: Although there is otherwise no guarantee of acceptance to New York Medical College’s School of Medicine or any other medical school, students who have successfully completed the didactic portion of the program enjoy an impressive medical school acceptance rate of greater than 85 percent. Our accelerated curriculum is geared towards this goal.
• Guaranteed: The Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences has guaranteed interview agreements with several colleges and universities. They are open to graduates and current Master's students of the GSBMS. In addition, the GSBMS has partnered with Kaplan Test Prep to offer our students substantial discounts as well as personal guidance on course selection from our academic advisors.
• Affordable: We believe that education isn’t exceptional if it’s not affordable. We work hard to provide Financial Aid to qualified students, and offer a Tuition Payment Plan as well.
