Life At NYMC

Student life at NYMC offers a wide range of opportunities to join student clubs and organizations, participate in the local community, and complement your academic study with enriching activities. Campus life at NYMC means engaging recreation, and a warm, supportive environment. Campus Events

College-wide events on campus include formal ceremonies like our annual commencement and Holocaust remembrance events. You can watch past Holocaust remembrance ceremonies on our Yom Hashoah YouTube playlist, visit our commencement website for information on the upcoming ceremony and coverage of past ceremonies, and you can find the community, research, and ceremonial events unique to each school on their respective webpages. 

Health & Wellness

Your physical and mental well-being is an important foundation for your success as a student. When undertaking a challenging endeavor like studying in medical school, in the health sciences or pursuing any scientific discipline, it’s crucial to take care of your overall health. At NYMC, we offer support services, activities and facilities that help you maintain each aspect of your health and well-being.

Health Services

NYMC Health Services, located in the Basic Sciences Building, provides health care services for all students with respect to incoming health requirements as well as clearance for requisites for clinical or laboratory activities. Health Services also provides education on the prevention of exposures to infectious agents and needle stick injury procedures. Clinical care for students is available at the NYMC Family Health Center located at 19 Skyline Drive. The outpatient faculty practice provides comprehensive medical and preventive care as well as urgent care. NYMC is located adjacent to Westchester Medical Center, a level trauma center serving all levels of emergency need.

Sports & Activities

On campus, we have plenty of opportunities for physical exercise and activities outside of academics. Two fitness centers, including the Dr. Edward F. and Mrs. Anna M. Asprinio Fitness Center and one reserved for on-campus residents, offer cardio machines, weights, and other features to help you stay active, and our intramural sports, like basketball and flag football, provide a fun outlet for exercises. Many other engaging clubs on campus like camping, cycling, soccer and rock climbing or the indoor golf simulator are sure to pique your interests. Our 54-acre campus offers an outdoor mega-size chess board, green space for impromptu open-air games and miles of walking paths. Nearby there are also many options for outdoor activities in the local area including parks, hiking and biking trails, golf courses, pools, beaches and nature centers.

Mental Health

NYMC offers free in-person health counseling services and, in partnership with Teladoc and Health Advocate, 24-hour virtual mental health services to students. If you’re looking for recreational relaxation activities, we also have yoga and meditation classes. Housing & Residential Life

The Office of Student and Residential Life provides safe, welcoming and affordable housing options for our students. All full-time students are eligible to apply for campus housing. Student housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis, as the housing timeline varies by school and program. We also provide support and resources to find alternative off-campus housing in the local area. Student Organizations

Joining student organizations allow you to socialize, make new friends and engage in enriching activities with your peers. Students are encouraged to get involved in a club or organization on campus and complement their academics with extracurriculars. We have everything you can think of, including career-oriented clubs in specialty areas like cardiology and family medicine, social clubs like the Art Club or Ballroom Dance Club, athletic clubs in sports like cycling or climbing, community service organizations and more. Community Involvement

Part of the culture and mission at NYMC is to give back to the community and help under-resourced populations. Community involvement is embedded in our curriculum and in the many student organizations and volunteer opportunities we offer. The College offers plentiful opportunities to participate in community events. NYMC students host local clinics and health fairs, participate in pre-health mentorship for local K-12 students and develop educational resources for those in need. The Food Mart. Shelves of snacks like jerky, chips, cereal, and granola bars, and a large cooler of water, soda, sports drinks, and energy drinks.

Dining

Canteen is an established food service company that manages the College’s contactless Food Mart with mobile and touchless payment options. Campus food service is glatt kosher. The campus food marts also cater to special dietary needs including food allergies, gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian meals.

NYMC Gear

Shop NYMC merchandise and apparel through the official NYMC online shop. With a wide selection of products ranging from t-shirts and sweats to tech gadgets and eco-friendly gifts, you're bound to find something perfect for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for others.

Safety and Transportation

We offer transportation services at the College and ample safe and convenient parking by permit for residents on campus and commuter students. Our campus shuttle, operated by the Office of Public Safety, is available for transportation around campus and safety escorts are available upon request. Members of the campus community can also take advantage of the convenient Westchester County Bee-Line bus system with routes and stops throughout campus or the nearby MTA Metro-North Railroad commuter rail service. Religious and Spiritual Support

At NYMC, we support the religious and spiritual practice of all of our students. We offer worship spaces for those of particular religions and denominations and encourage exploring the worship services in the local community.

Christian Services:

The student-led Christian Medical and Dental Association provides regular weekly Bible studies and Sunday evening prayer, as well as other events on- and off-campus. Islamic Worship Services:

There is designated space on campus set aside for daily services. To confirm times and dates, please contact Mohammed Afsar Mohiuddin at a_mohiuddin@nymc.edu.

Jewish Services:

There is designated space on campus for Shacharit services, Mincha and Ma'ariv. To confirm times and dates, contact Rabbi Baruch Fogel at robert.fogel2@touro.edu. Additionally, the College's food service is glatt kosher and under the supervision of the Orthodox Union's Kashruth Division. The campus itself has an eruv.
