Twenty-First Annual Medical Student Research Forum Set for February 9

Internationally-recognized expert on breast cancer research and treatment, Lyndsay Harris, M.D., will be the keynote speaker at the 21st Annual Medical Student Research Forum scheduled for Thursday, February 9.

Internationally-recognized expert on breast cancer research and treatment, Lyndsay Harris, M.D., will be the keynote speaker at the 21st Annual Medical Student Research Forum scheduled for Thursday, February 9. Dr. Harris, who is the program director for Breast Cancer in the Cancer Diagnosis Program, Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis, National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will present "Precision Medicine: What Have We Learned? What's Next?" Her keynote will introduce new strategies in the treatment of breast cancer using personalized medicine and explore ways in which the field continues to advance.

Dr. Harris focuses on translating findings from the laboratory to the clinic and has worked in the field of biomarkers of breast cancer for more than 25 years. She has studied mechanisms of resistance to both chemo- and targeted therapies. More recently her work has applied genomic technologies to understand resistance to treatment in vivo using tissue biopsies from clinical trials. She has published more than 130 papers, chapters and reviews and participated in grant reviews through the Department of Defense, Susan G. Komen and the NIH. 
 
The Medical Student Research Forum is an annual event to provide an opportunity for medical students to present and share their findings with the College community. It is based on the belief that a fundamental understanding of the relationship between medical research and the practice of medicine can enable physician-scientists to better serve patients and the community.
