NYMC Hosts 2021 Club Fair with Record Number of Approved Clubs
The Fair Was a Chance for Students to Explore and Get Involved with the Many Different Clubs at NYMC
New York Medical College (NYMC) students looking to get involved on campus attended the 2021 Club Fair on September 14. Spread throughout lobbies of the Medical Education Center (MEC) and the Basic Sciences Building (BSB), the cafeteria and the MEC plaza, the fair featured 75 club tables. The participation reflects the highest number of approved student clubs in NYMC history—90. Students were eager to participate in-person, as the fair was virtual last year, and got to learn about the various student organizations at NYMC.
Tables lined the designated areas with a variety of clubs, ranging from medical-oriented clubs focused on various specialties, sports-focused clubs such as Tennis Club and the Flag Football Club and cultural clubs such as the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA). Clubs of all interests and focuses had students, both new and returning, eager to learn more about the student organizations on campus and to sign up to participate in future events.
“The 2021 club fair exceeded all our expectations in many ways. The event planning had to comply with the NYMC COVID-19 policy while bringing students together to socialize as well as impart club and organization information and create community. As a result, there was an overwhelming turn out and excitement for the club fair event,” said Anthony M. Sozzo, M.A., M.S.Ed., associate dean for student affairs and director of student financial planning and student activities.
The number of approved clubs for the 2021-2022 academic year is a record for NYMC, according to Mr. Sozzo, as students are returning to in-person activities for the first time in more than a year. There are nine new clubs making their debut this year, including the Food Insecurity and Medical Outreach club, Business of Medicine Club and the International Club. A livestream of the event was conducted by Mr. Sozzo to offer students who could not attend a chance to learn about opportunities to participate.
