NYMC Honors 2023 Faculty Authors
College Celebrates 381 Faculty Authors for 768 Publications
The College community gathered to honor faculty authors who published scholarly works throughout the 2023 calendar year on October 29. Hosted by the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, the Office of the Chancellor, and the Office of the Vice President for Research, this celebratory event highlighted the achievements of 381 faculty members whose contributions included 768 publications—599 articles, 139 published conference abstracts, 6 complete books, and 24 book chapters. The comprehensive 2023 Faculty Bibliography is accessible online and available in print upon request.
Expressing appreciation for the dedication of faculty authors, Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director of the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, thanked the faculty for advancing science and deepening NYMC’s research presence. “Thank you to the 381 New York Medical College (NYMC) authors who we are celebrating today and for the work you do to advance science and understanding and for increasing the depth of the NYMC research footprint.”
Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer, congratulated the faculty authors and underscored the responsibility of health care professionals to safeguard the freedom of their research. “While we celebrate authorship and publications, the price of liberty—including that of physicians, dentists, scientists, to conduct research and publish and distribute research—is eternal vigilance on all our parts,” he said.
Adding to the reflections, Salomon Amar, D.D.S., Ph.D., vice president for research and professor of pharmacology and of pathology, microbiology and immunology at NYMC and senior vice president for research affairs at TU, highlighted the immortalization of research as a legacy for future generations. “Thank you for your contribution to the body of research here at NYMC,” he said. “The research you’re conducting stays and is the springboard for future research.”
Awards were presented in a variety of categories considering engagement, distribution and the influence of the publications. The library collected data from Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports, and PlumX (via Touro Scholar). These proprietary, curated resources are available through the library.
