A three-decade tradition continued on November 29 when the NYMC community gathered to recognize and celebrate faculty authors who published during the 2022 calendar year. Hosted by the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, the event lauded 396 authors who published 812 peer-reviewed works including articles, conference abstracts, and edited and authored books. The complete 2022 Touro University Faculty Bibliography is available online or by request in print.

“Be proud of what you do, you bring honor to New York Medical College, and you create what is our scientific footprint through your publications,” said Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director of the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, in her opening remarks. “Tonight, we will give some awards for those publications that rose to the top in some measures, but know, every author here tonight is honored for your work. This is a celebration of you.”

Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer, offered his words of wisdom. “For the faculty, be a good mentor. That includes guiding your trainees to do quality work, write it up in a high-quality manner, and only submit it to respectable peer-reviewed journals. For the students and the faculty, be smart consumers. Don't waste time and money submitting papers to predatory publishers. I believe the technical term would be "avoid chazeri" [anything of little value]. Let's celebrate achievement and quality this afternoon in our faculty and student publications and express our gratitude to one of the noble divine creations, librarians and their libraries, who created today's program.”

Awards were presented in a variety of categories considering engagement, distribution and the influence of the publications. The library collected data from Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports, and PlumX (via Touro Scholar). These proprietary, curated resources are available through the library.
