Amanda Beck, D.V.M., Named Director of Self-Directed Learning and Evidence-Based Practice in the Office of UME
Dr. Beck Joins the SOM As A Successful Educator and Expert in Pathology
Amanda Beck, D.V.M., has joined the School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) as director of self-directed learning and evidence-based practice, bringing valuable experience as an expert in pathology and as an award-winning educator.
In her new role, Dr. Beck will oversee the delivery of the longitudinal, self-directed learning curriculum for the M.D. Program. She will also assist with research-related activities in support of New York Medical College's (NYMC) research infrastructure and core facilities.
“I am confident that Dr. Beck will be a great asset to the College and SOM as we work collaboratively to enhance the quality of medical education for which NYMC is known,” said Jennifer L. Koestler, M.D., F.A.A.P.,senior associate dean for medical education.
Prior to joining NYMC, Dr. Beck was associate professor of pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A graduate of Bates College and Kansas State University of Veterinary Medicine, she completed a residency in anatomic pathology, with special training at Rockefeller University in collaboration with Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Beck completed post-doctoral training in comparative pathology and diagnostic and experimental laboratory animal pathology at Yale University School of Medicine. She previously served as a block director for the pre-clerkship Integrated Foundational Sciences course at Einstein. She is the recipient of several high-profile teaching awards and is currently enrolled in a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) program at Hofstra University.
