Campus Playground Gets a Makeover
Play Area Provides Recreation for NYMC’s Young Residents
For more than 25 years, the Blanche and Albert Willner Playground in the student housing complex has been a source of enjoyment for children residing on campus. That enjoyment continues today thanks to the hard work and resourcefulness of Student Housing Superintendent Visar Zeka and his team, who recently refurbished the playground.
A good power wash, some primer and two fresh coats of paint spruced up the play set while new mats and a generous layer of mulch provide added safety features. Ordering replacement parts was a challenge, but Zeka and his dedicated team found what they needed to bring new life and restore the playground to its former glory.
“It was a fun project to work on but it’s even better to see the children of NYMC outside playing on it,” said Zeka. “I hope it brings many more years of smiles and joy to the campus children.”
The playground began as a wish list of the Friends Club and students in 1996 who petitioned for a fun and safe play area for children living on campus. The late Albert Willner, M.D. ’43, and others stepped up to the plate with donations for the playground which was dedicated in November 1997.
