Days of Giving Raises More Than $450,000 for Student Scholarships
For The Fifth Consecutive Year, The NYMC Community Rallied Over A Two-Day Period To Raise Money For Student Scholarships
The Fifth Annual Days of Giving campaign on March 29 and 30 was a success, raising $450,343 to be awarded as scholarships to students in the School of Medicine (SOM), the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences and the School of Health Sciences and Practice. This year’s campaign yielded 260 gifts from 251 donors in 28 states.
Days of Giving showcased the generosity of New York Medical College’s (NYMC) community, from Valhalla and beyond. A group of generous donors, including alumni, trustees and friends provided matching funds and the dedication and diligence of 22 ambassadors who volunteered to help spread the word about the campaign through social media, networking and personal contacts helped make the campaign a success. This year awards were given to the top ambassadors in three categories: Jonathan Gavras, M.D. '86, alumni ambassador; Rajkumar S. Pammal, SOM Class Of 2023, student ambassador; and Adam D. Hammerman, M.B.A., vice president and chief financial officer, faculty/staff ambassador.
Longtime donor and supporter of NYMC, Dr. Gavras solicited his former classmates of the SOM Class of 1986 to support the cause. Dr. Gavras also supports an endowed scholarship at NYMC, the Dr. Jonathan and Debra Gavras Endowed Scholarship, and he has agreed to be the ambassador for the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center expansion campaign.
“New York Medical College’s focus on creating well-prepared, patient-centered physicians was instrumental in my career. So many new great things have continued to occur since I graduated. I am so impressed not only with the college but with the ongoing commitment to the creation of great young doctors,” said Dr. Gavras.
“We are so pleased with the results of our latest Days of Giving campaign. Thank you to all our generous donors and friends who participated and contributed to important student scholarships. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to reduce debt burden and allow our students to focus on becoming the healthcare professionals of tomorrow,” said Bess J. Chazhur, M.S., chief development officer and executive director of alumni relations.
