The 17th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Research Day featuring keynote speaker Julie Ann Sosa, M.D., M.A., FACS, MAMSE, FSSO, was presented virtually on December 16. Dr. Sosa, the Leon Goldman M.D., Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and professor in the Department of Medicine and affiliated faculty for the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF, is an endocrine surgeon who specializes in thyroid cancer.
The Louis R.M. DelGuercio Research Day was established in 2002 to honor the late Dr. Del Guercio's leadership and pioneering research during his 24-year tenure as chair of the Department of Surgery, and to stimulate and promote surgical research at NYMC. After viewing the podium and poster presentations by faculty, residents and students, Dr. Sosa commented, “I've been so impressed by both the mentors and mentees. For mentees to be successful, it means they have incredible mentors. The breadth of the studies and the diversity of talking topics and presenters today was really fantastic.”
