Employees Celebrated for Years of Service
It was an unusually chilly morning on May 14, but the New York Medical College (NYMC) community filled the tent with warm spirits and collegiality as a collective gesture of appreciation for the years of service provided by their colleagues.
The 31st Annual Employee Recognition breakfast, hosted by the Office of Human Resources, celebrated those employees who were marking five-year work milestones, from five through 45-years of service.
Among them was Liza Markley, second from left, administrator of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, who celebrated her 45th anniversary working for the College. Ms. Markley, who started working for the College in 1974, credits NYMC’s warm and collegial community for inspiring her to spend her career at the College. “I enjoy all aspects of my job but it’s the people I work side-by-side with that have driven my enthusiasm to strive for excellence in my work,” she explains. “The NYMC community is so special to me because of the wonderful people who comprise it.”
Thirty five-year honoree, Anthony M. Sozzo, M.A., M.S.Ed., associate dean for student affairs and director of student activities and student financial planning, said “NYMC has always been a tight-knit community. In my experience, everyone gets along very well and reaches out to people in time of need.” The well-loved student-advocate and financial aid counseling veteran, who served as director of financial aid and assistant dean for student affairs before assuming his current role as associate dean, said what he appreciates most about his job is working with NYMC’s diverse student population, “We have always attracted some of the smartest and kindest students who are so devoted to spending their lives helping others.”
