Meet the 2024-2025 Graduate Student Association E-Board
The GSA Empowers Graduate Students Through Advocacy, Community, and Research
The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is a vital part of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBMS), cultivating a strong sense of community and empowering graduate students. Each year, elected officers lead the organization in advocating for students' interests on social, academic, and professional issues. The GSA actively supports student organizations, promotes a diverse range of academic and social events, and serves as a voice for student concerns. One of its hallmark initiatives is the annual Graduate Student Research Forum (GSRF), where students showcase their research and engage with the broader scientific community.
Rahim Hirani, M.D./Ph.D. candidate, center, is the president of the GSA for the 2024-2025 academic year. “My primary goal is to foster a vibrant and inclusive community by advocating for graduate student interests, enhancing academic and professional development opportunities, promoting social engagement and well-being, and ensuring that diversity and inclusivity are at the forefront of all initiatives,” said Hirani.
Hirani's vision extends beyond the confines of academia. He values multiculturalism and recognizes the immense power of diversity in enriching the educational experience. As president, Hirani aspires to bring the vibrant tapestry of cultures together, organizing and promoting cultural events that celebrate diversity and encourage intercultural understanding on campus. By doing so, he hopes to create an environment where students from all backgrounds feel valued and inspired to contribute their unique perspectives to the academic discourse.
Some of the events being planned by the GSA this year include a charity 5K run, the GSRF, and socializing events aimed at fostering community and engagement among the graduate student body.
