GSBMS Enters into Agreement with Touro Physician Assistant Programs
The Program Will Guarantee an Interview and/or Grant Conditional Acceptance to Eligible GSBMS Students or Graduates Who Seek Admission to a Touro PA Program
The Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS) has entered into an agreement with the Touro College School of Health Sciences (TCSHS) Physician Assistant (PA) Programs. Under the agreement, eligible GSBMS master’s students or graduates who seek admission to one of the PA Programs will be guaranteed an interview or a conditional acceptance pending an interview if certain academic performance benchmarks are met.
The agreement establishes a pipeline program between the GSBMS and the TCSHS PA programs at the Manhattan, Middletown, Nassau University Medical Center and Bay Shore campuses. This mutually beneficial arrangement recognizes the strength of the GSBMS programs and offers GSBMS students a strong educational path into the physician assistant profession while providing TCSHS with highly qualified students for their PA programs.
“Our primary goal in the GSBMS is to provide our students with an exceptional education that leads to a career of their choice. The agreement with the TCSHS PA programs expands the variety of professional options for our M.S. students and graduates, which already include medical, dental and podiatry programs,” said Marina K. Holz, Ph.D., dean of the GSBMS and professor of cell biology and anatomy.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the projected percent change in employment for physician assistants from 2020 to 2030 is 31 percent. The average growth rate for all occupations is eight percent.
