NYMC Goes All In For FIMO’s Spring Food Drive
The FIMO Spring Food Drive for the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry Supports Hundreds in Westchester County
The Food Insecurity Medical Outreach (FIMO) club loaded two trunks filled with cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, bags of rice and other non-perishable food items collected during their Spring Food Drive on March 27 to April 4. The New York Medical College (NYMC) community gathered food items for families facing food insecurity. Collections were donated to the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry, which serves more than 400 Westchester food insecure families weekly and assisted nearly 100,000 people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The purpose and mission of this food drive aligns with the missions of NYMC, where food insecurity plagues our country and our state," said David Zuckerman, SOM Class of 2023 and FIMO president. “More than 10 percent of New York State citizens are food insecure. Giving back to the community in this way is really rewarding, especially seeing the health community helping in such a meaningful way.”
After one year on campus, the FIMO members were thrilled with the success of their collections. The Spring Food Drive collected as much food as their Thanksgiving Food Drive in a fraction of the time.
“Thank you,” exclaimed Kaleb Noruzi, SOM Class of 2023 and FIMO event coordinator. “We really appreciate the turnout for the food drive. We have so many FIMO volunteers who set aside time from their busy schedules and actively volunteer at food pantries and distribute food items to families on a weekly basis and we’re thankful for their help.”
