Public Health Program Receives Seven-Year CEPH Accreditation
SHSP Meets Rigorous Criteria for Teaching, Research and Service to The Community
The public health program in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) recently earned the maximum term of accreditation—seven years—by the Council for Education on Public Health (CEPH). The accreditation extends through December 31, 2029, with an interim report due in October 2023. CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs outside schools of public health.
To successfully achieve accreditation, members of the SHSP community conducted an extensive self-evaluation, prepared a self-study with documentation for each CEPH criteria and hosted a two-day CEPH site visit in June 2022 with participation from administration, faculty, students, alumni and community partners.
“CEPH accreditation, renewed through the end of this decade, assures our students of an ongoing educational experience that is stimulating, thought provoking and of highest value,” said Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the SHSP and vice president for government affairs. “We are indebted to our top-notch faculty who continuously explore new teaching formats and modalities that connect theory and principles to life in today’s ever-changing practical world.”
The national accreditation process is a rigorous one to ensure that schools and programs of public health are effectively preparing their students for impactful careers in the field. CEPH’s mission is to “assure quality in public health education and training to achieve excellence in practice, research and service, through collaboration with organizational and community partners,” according to the council’s website.
