NYMC Transforms Workout Experience with Upgrades to Asprinio Fitness Center
Improvements Include New Equipment and Extended Hours
In a stride towards enhancing the overall well-being of its campus community, New York Medical College (NYMC) reveals a cutting-edge fitness haven with the recently renovated Dr. Edward F. and Mrs. Anna M. Asprinio Fitness Center.
All students, faculty, and staff with a valid NYMC ID badge have access to the latest state-of-the-art fitness equipment from cardio machines to strength training equipment, including a new Smith Machine, which is used to isolate muscles in weightlifting and allows for greater ease when lifting heavy weights that would normally require a spotter. The fitness center also features a space dedicated to functional training and yoga classes to allow for more versatile and dynamic workout options.
Located on the ground floor of 19 Skyline Drive, members of the campus community can enjoy working out safely with operating hours from 5:00 a.m. to midnight and 24/7 video surveillance.
After breaking a sweat, guests can view the captivating sketches, paintings, and photos of the campus that now adorn the center—all skillfully crafted by talented NYMC students from all schools. “Previous college-wide Senate surveys have emphasized the importance of exercise in promoting overall well-being amongst our student body,” said Katie Lo, SOM Class of 2024 and SOM Senate president. “We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our campus leadership who have advocated for and helped fund these renovations, such that students can continue to exercise wellness both inside and outside the classroom.”
The improvements were made possible through generous donations from David E. Asprinio, M.D., chair and professor of clinical orthopedic surgery and professor of pharmacology, and family; Martin S. Katzenstein, M.D. ’78, chair of the NYMC Board of Advisors, assistant dean for clinical affiliations, and associate professor of clinical pediatrics.
The Dr. Edward F. and Mrs. Anna M. Asprinio Fitness Center, named for Dr. Asprinio’s parents, was dedicated in 2016.
