SHSP Dean’s Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series Features Leading Health Education Specialist

The School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) hosted a special lecture on January 23 as part of its Dean’s Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series.

Health education specialist Karl L. Larson, Ph.D., MCHES, center, professor and program director in public health in the Department of Health and Exercise Sciences at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota, presented “History and Development of a National Case Study Competition in Public Health Education.”

Dr. Larson is the creator and has served as director of the National Case Study Competition since 2005. He has authored numerous articles and books, the most recent book being the second edition of Consumer Health and Integrative Medicine. He completed a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation from Minnesota State University-Mankato, followed by a master’s and doctorate in community health education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Dr. Larson was welcomed by Mark J. Kittleson, Ph.D., MCHES, FAAHB, FAAHE, left, professor and chair of the Department of Public Health, and Benjamin F. Johnson, Ed.D., vice dean of the SHSP.
