SHSP Hosts Successful Fifth Annual Research and Scholarship Day
The School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP), in collaboration with Alpha Eta and Delta Omega Honor Societies, hosted its Fifth Annual Research and Scholarship Day on May 11 at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center.
The School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP), in collaboration with Alpha Eta and Delta Omega Honor Societies, hosted its Fifth Annual Research and Scholarship Day on May 11 at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. Students presented a record-breaking number of posters of their research and scholarly activities according to Boyer’s five categories of scholarship: discovery, teaching, integration, application/practice and engagement. The event aims to encourage research, stimulate networking among students and faculty, and express appreciation to NYMC and community mentors. Event co-chairs Luis F. Riquelme, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, BCS-S, associate professor of speech-language pathology, and Susan L. Ronan, P.T., D.P.T., P.C.S., assistant professor of physical therapy, expressed their appreciation to the faculty judges who volunteered their time reading abstracts, reviewing posters and interviewing authors. “The quantity and quality of research shared at this year’s Research and Scholarship Day were very impressive,” said Dr. Riquelme. “The SHSP Research and Scholarship Day really has become a highlight of the academic year,” said Dr. Ronan.
Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., SHSP dean and vice president for government affairs, opened the event with insightful remarks on the importance of research and Ben C. Watson, Ph.D., SHSP vice dean, presented the Fifth Annual Research and Scholarship Day awards to:
