StuHE Hosts 2021 Career Mentor Session
Students and Alumni Met Virtually with Mentors at the “Speed Mentoring” Event
The Student Healthcare Executives Club (StuHE) in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) hosted the 2021 Career Mentor Session on November 12 via Zoom. StuHE officers and volunteers moderated the meetings and breakout rooms at an on-campus command center. The Zoom sessions were filled with lively discussions among more than 45 students and alumni from the SHSP and 10 public health professionals.
The mentors represented a variety of disciplines in public health and healthcare including environmental health sciences; health policy and management; epidemiology, biostatistics; health promotion; and community health, and used their expertise to review resumes, give feedback and offer public health career advice.
Students appreciated the opportunity to network, while the mentors were eager to share their experience, according to Jesus Vasquez, M.P.H. candidate in health policy and management and director of the StuHE newsletter.
Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the SHSP and vice president for government affairs and Ben Johnson, Ed.D., vice dean of the SHSP, welcomed the participants to the event which was supported by StuHE advisors Denise C. Tahara, Ph.D., associate professor of health policy and management, Michael P. Shakarjian, Ph.D., assistant professor of environmental health science and program director, and Cindy Jakubowski, administrator of the Department of Public Health.
