StuHe Hosts Career Networking and Mock Interview Event
Students Learn Valuable Tips on How to Market Themselves to Future Employers
The Student Healthcare Executives (StuHe), a chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) hosted their Fall Career Networking and Mock Interview Event on November 29. The event took place remotely with a command center on campus to coordinate the activities. During the evening, students had the opportunity to receive career advice from Healthcare Leaders of New York (HLNY) representatives.
HLNY represents professionals in the New York Metropolitan Area, providing access to networking, education and career development activities at the local level for ACHE members. Although the event was remote, the Zoom room was buzzing with questions about placements for internships and jobs, how to build a resume, tips on interviewing, and other career tips and advice. In breakout rooms organized by public health program concentration, students had the opportunity to participate in mock job interviews for positions such as health educator, policy analyst, data analyst, compliance officer and biostatistician. Each student met one-on-one with a field expert and were able to practice interviewing skills and receive feedback from the mock interviewer.
HLNY representatives were impressed by the students’ professionalism, preparation and enthusiasm, evidenced by the thoughtful and pointed questions they asked. Although not a real job interview, students saw this event as an opportunity to build their networking skills and learn how to market themselves to future employers.
