GSBMS Accelerated Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences Transfer Policy

I. Purpose
It is the policy of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences to ensure that all students are on track to graduate in a timely manner while achieving and maintaining compliance with minimum academic standards. Students who fall below these standards must follow an approved Academic Plan to remediate their GPA.
II. Policy
Students in the Accelerated Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences M.S. program who achieve a cumulative semester GPA below 2.8 in the Fall term will be required to transfer to the 2-Year Master of Science in Physiology program by the first day of the spring term.
III. Scope
This policy applies to students in the Accelerated iBMS M.S. program.
IV. Definitions
GSBMS: Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
M.S.: Master of Science Degree
Accelerated iBMS: Accelerated Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences
V. Procedures
- Accelerated iBMS students’ progress will be reviewed carefully throughout the Fall term by the Program Director.
- Students will be advised by the Program Director of their potential transfer prior to the end of the Fall term.
- A student who achieves a cumulative semester GPA below a 2.8 for the Fall term will be required to transfer to the 2-Year Master of Science in Physiology program.
- The Accelerated iBMS Program Director in conjunction with the M.S. Physiology Program Director will advise the student as to which courses need to be taken for each subsequent semester to ensure a timely graduation.
- A Program Change form as well as an Add/Drop/Withdrawal form must be completed and submitted by the student to the Registrar before the first day of the Spring term.
- All courses taken as an Accelerated iBMS student will be used to satisfy several degree requirements of the M.S. Physiology program.
- Failure to transfer to M.S. in Physiology program will result in dismissal from the Accelerated iBMS program.
VI. Effective Date
This policy is effective immediately.
