I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to outline the space limitations for clinical rotations.
II. POLICY
Students enrolled in the NYMC GSBMS CLS program must complete a required number of clinical practicum rotations at affiliated hospitals. If sufficient placement is not available for all students in a cohort, they will be placed on a waitlist and assigned cloud-based coursework through MediaLab until a clinical placement is secured.
III. SCOPE
This policy applies to students who are enrolled in the NYMC GSBMS M.S. Clinical Laboratory Sciences program.
IV. DEFINITIONS
M.S.: Master of Science Degree
CLS: Clinical Laboratory Sciences
GSBMS: Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
NYMC: New York Medical College
V. PROCEDURES
A. Each clinical site affiliated with the CLS program will train one student per clinical laboratory section during the clinical practicum.
B. If the number of students eligible for clinical placement exceeds the number of spaces available, students may be placed on a waiting list as needed and will be assigned to the next available site based on their remaining clinical practicum requirements.
C. While on the waiting list, students will complete simulations and coursework relevant to their scheduled clinical practicum rotation through MediaLab, a cloud-based learning platform, until placement becomes available.
D. MediaLab simulations and coursework do not fulfill/substitute for clinical hours required for NYS licensing.
VI. EFFECTIVE DATE
This policy is effective immediately.
