Issue Date: February 6, 2024
Supersedes: Per-Credit Tuition Policy dated July 1, 2023
Last Review: February 6, 2024
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for a comprehensive (block) tuition plan in which students enrolled in Tracks A and B of the two-year master’s program in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (“GSBMS”) will pay a flat rate of tuition per semester.
II. POLICY
Students enrolled in Tracks A and B in the two-year master’s program in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences will pay for courses via a comprehensive (block) tuition plan. Students will pay a flat rate of tuition per semester for enrollment in 4 or more credits. Students will register online each fall and spring. The comprehensive (block) tuition rate will be charged each fall and spring. Students registering for less than 4 credits in any given semester will automatically be charged the current per- credit rate and students will not be eligible for financial aid. Tuition for summer courses for all students will be charged at the current per-credit rate.
III. SCOPE
This policy applies to students in the GSBMS two-year master’s degree programs in the following disciplines: Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Physiology. This policy will also apply to any new GSBMS two-year master’s programs developed in the future.
IV. DEFINITIONS
GSBMS: Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
M.S.: Master of Science Degree
NYMC: New York Medical College
V. PROCEDURES
a. Students are charged a flat rate of tuition each fall and spring term where they are registered for at least 4 credits, regardless of how many total credits they register for.
b. Students may enroll in courses beyond the required credits/courses to reach the degree.
c. Students who have matriculated prior to July 1, 2024 are excluded from this policy.
d. Biomedical Science & Management Master's program students, non-matriculants, and part-time students (enrolled in less than 4 credits per semester) are charged the current per-credit rate.
e. Non-matriculants will be charged the current per-credit rate, but once matriculated, the student’s tuition will follow the block payment scheme.
f. Students must register for 4 or more credits in each semester to be eligible for a full-time financial aid budget. If a student enrolls in only 4 credits, they should be aware that they will likely need to complete extra courses within a single subsequent semester.
g. If a student in a block program enrolls in fewer than 4 credits, they will automatically be charged the current per-credit rate, and the student will not be eligible for financial aid.
h. When a student must extend their coursework past the two-year timeframe because their GPA falls below 3.0, to improve a grade in a course, or for other reasons approved by GSBMS, they will be allowed to remediate during one year following the end of the two-year program timeframe, with permission of the program director. Additional extensions will be allowed in extraordinary circumstances with permission of the program director and the GSBMS Dean. Students will be charged the current per-credit tuition rate as well as the required fees. Students are responsible for contacting Student Financial Planning regarding their financial aid eligibility.
i. Students who have completed coursework within the two-year program timeframe but complete their literature review or thesis in a subsequent semester, will be required to register for Maintenance of Matriculation and pay the required fee.
VI. EFFECTIVE DATE
This policy is effective as of July 1, 2024.
