Tai M. Lee Jr., EMT-P/CIC, MEP, joined the Center for Disaster Medicine in December of 2022. His duties include the coordination of first responder training. Mr. Lee is a retired New York City Police Department police officer, having completed 20 years of service.

Mr. Lee was assigned to the NYPD’s Disorder Control Unit (DCU) where he served as the unit’s senior instructor and subject matter expert in crowd control tactics and operations, weapons of mass destruction (WMD)/hazardous materials (HazMat), incident management and command post operations, and basic tactical medicine. He is credited with the redesign of the unit’s Advanced COBRA Refresher course, implementing START Triage training, and the distribution and training in the use of the NYPD’s Belt Trauma Kit (tourniquet, pressure dressing, and hemostatic agent).

Mr. Lee's duties also included exercise design, conduct, and evaluation. As a certified Master Exercise Practitioner, he ensured that exercises met or exceeded the requirements and standards of the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). Mr. Lee designed and conducted tabletop and full-scale exercises for the New York Yankees and the US Tennis Association, and assisted NYC Emergency Management and the Port Authority of NY and NJ in their exercises.

Mr. Lee became certified as a New York State paramedic in 1999 and currently practices in Westchester County. He is a certified New York State EMS instructor has also taught law enforcement officers throughout the United States as an instructor for the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP). He has taught in the CDP’s Field Force Operations (FFO), Law Enforcement Protective Measures (LEPM), Law Enforcement Response Actions (LERA), and Incident Command System.
