Children's Environmental Health Center
Founded in 2017, the Children’s Environmental Health Center is a collaboration of the physicians at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center and the faculty of the School of Public Health and Practice of New York Medical College. It is a partnership aiming to treat, educate and research the effects of environmental pollutants and toxicants on young children. The College-affiliated center is one of seven in the state, and the only one in Westchester County. The overarching goal is to combat environmental health hazard exposures in low-income and at-risk populations in the Hudson Valley region, doing so with programs, screenings, and initiatives in collaboration with the Westchester Community Opportunity Program, the Hudson Valley Asthma Coalition/ALA of the Northeast, and the American Lung Association.
Research Objectives
- Provide consultations for children who may have been exposed to environmental toxins.
- Create educational programs about environmental toxins and pollutants and how to prevent/combat potential risks.
- Conducting research to better understand the role of the environment in children’s health.
