Former actor on both coasts, Sylvia De La Torre began her career at NYMC in the Standardized Patient Simulation. A year later, she transitioned into her present position as the Center’s Simulation and Technical Coordinator, serving as liaison between students, faculty, and Standardized Patients not only on programs for the School of Medicine, but also those for Touro College of Dental Medicine, School of Health Sciences and Practice, Westchester Medical Center, and Metropolitan Hospital.

Sylvia is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and is an American Heart Association Certified Basic Life Support instructor. Along with overseeing and maintaining the fidelity of all simulation equipment, Sylvia is responsible for being the lead clinical exam proctor, inputting programs to the Center’s education software, recording patient simulation encounters, and programming/conducting Laerdal SimMan 3G Plus simulations. As someone who interacts with students regularly, Sylvia plays a vital role in helping to bolster student wellness during formative and summative testing environments. Working with the Office of Admissions, she has also stepped in to provide tours for student candidates, past graduates, and outside groups. Sylvia also maintains informative digital signage to highlight ongoing schedules and programs at the Center.

Her education and previous professional management experience working for couture retailers Neiman-Marcus and Charles Jourdan enabled her transition into the Modeling and Talent School industry garnering a Director of Education position at John Robert Powers where she helped create and implement curricula, trained and managed instructors, and taught workshops as necessary.
