Marybeth Ryan

Maybeth Ryan is responsible for the successful implementation of clinical skills training and related remediation strategies for both medical students and standardized patients (SPs) in all forms of human and technical simulation. Maybeth takes great joy as an educator of students and SPs alike at the CSSC, particularly related to specialized remediation sessions and overseeing the physical examination training and assessment program.

Maybeth has been working in simulation since 1996 when she joined the Clinical Skills Program with the National Medical School Review as a Standardized Patient (SP).  In 1998 when Kaplan Medical acquired the CS Program from the National Medical School Review Maybeth became the Standardized Patient Trainer and Educator for the New Jersey Center which included training SPs in case portrayal as well as creating communication skills checklists and templates, designing, modifying, and enhancing cases, as well as writing, researching, developing, and implementing new curriculum.  In addition, she consulted on opening centers in Philadelphia, Pasadena, and Chicago, recruiting, casting, and training SPs during the early stages of the program. Maybeth was also a seminal figure in leading to the success of International Medical Graduates passing United States clinical skills licensing exams. 

Additionally, Maybeth has worked with other prestigious institutions and hospitals, including Mount Sinai, Cornell, St. Barnabas, New York Institute of Technology, and New York Medical College, and holds advanced certifications in teaching communication skills and executing simulation pedagogy. She was also published in the Kaplan USMLE Step2 CS Preparation Book. As a corporate trainer and facilitator in Communication Skills, Maybeth has worked with employees at Mt. Sinai on their customer service and communication with patients.  She has also worked with the FBI and Police Forces teaching agents and officers how to better perform interrogations, along with role playing exercises with Price Waterhouse Management.
