A practicing physician, Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.M.S., M.B.A., FAAP, FACPM, previously served as regional health administrator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As chief medical officer at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, he coordinated medical monitoring for anthrax response teams, launched a nationwide program to protect children from chemical hazards, established standardized environmental biomarkers, and created a nationwide clinical network.
