Doctoral Program-Specific Competencies

A graduate of the Dr.P.H. degree program in Health Policy and Management is expected to achieve the following doctoral program-specific competencies:

  1. Critically evaluate the possible impacts of non-medical determinants of health (such as environmental justice, recreational drug use, ageism, racism, sexism, poverty, immigration policy, education, occupation, income inequality, working/living conditions)
  2. Explain the role of government in the health care system and its impact on health care markets
  3. Analyze the extent which health services research-based empirical evidence supports public health and economic theory
  4. Use Stata or other statistical software to download, access, manage and analyze data
  5. Critically evaluate published peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, case studies, policy briefs, research proposals, or other research publications.
