Clinical Training Curriculum

Every year, three new residents begin our program, starting at the PGY-2 level after completing a preliminary year in internal medicine, family medicine, or surgery.

PGY-2 Training

  • General Inpatient Rehabilitation: 8 months
  • Outpatient MSK Clinic: 4 months
  • Wheelchair Evaluation Clinic: Twice monthly

PGY-3 Training

  • Outpatient MSK / EMG/ Prosthetics/ Orthotics Clinic: 3 months
  • Outpatient Spine Procedures / EMG Clinic (Hudson Valley VA / Castle Point): 1 month
  • Pediatric Rehabilitation at Blythedale Children's Hospital: 2 months
  • Traumatic Brain Injury Unit at Bellevue Hospital: 3 months
  • TBI Clinic and Consult Service at Bellevue Hospital: 1 month
  • Sports Medicine Clinic: 1 month
  • Pain Management/ Spine Procedures Clinic at Coney Island Hospital: 4 sessions

PGY-4 Training

  • Outpatient Spine Procedures at Hudson Valley VA: 2 months
  • Electrodiagnostic Medicine: 4 months
  • Consult Service: 3 months
  • Elective: 1 month

Anatomy Lab

Held twice a year in the NYMC Cadaver lab. Anatomy instruction is provided by the NYMC Department of Anatomy Faculty and specifically focuses on clinically relevant musculoskeletal and peripheral nerve anatomy.

Research Day

Residents are encouraged to participate in research and prepare abstracts for presentation at the AAP and AAPM&R meetings held annually. Research day is an opportunity for residents and faculty to showcase their research to the entire department and prepare their posters for formal presentation.
