Mill Etienne, M.D. '02, M.P.H., FAAN, FAES
Mill Etienne, M.D., M.P.H., FAAN, FAES, directs the “Multiculturalism in Medicine” and “Impact of War on Medicine” electives for fourth-year medical students. Dr. Etienne is a visiting scholar at the National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care at Tuskegee University and director of neurology at WMCHealth’s Good Samaritan Hospital. He is also past president of the New York State Neurological Society.
Dr. Etienne was the founding director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he also served as director of the autonomic laboratory. While at Walter Reed, Dr. Etienne was associate program director of the neurology residency program and was on the clinical neurophysiology teaching faculty for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the NIH. He was also chief of the Ethics Committee on board the U.S. Naval Ship Comfort during Operation Unified Response, the U.S. military response to the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. During the spring 2020 peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Etienne was deployed with the Navy to serve in New York City at the Javits Medical Station. He is a captain in the U.S. Navy and currently serves as the executive officer of the USNS Comfort Reserve unit.
Dr. Etienne is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American Neurological Association, and American Epilepsy Society. He has authored numerous book chapters and publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is part of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and has received multiple teaching awards throughout his tenure at NYMC. Dr. Etienne received the 2024 American Academy of Neurology DEI Changemaker Award and the 2024 American Medical Association Dedication to the Profession Award. Dr. Etienne is board-certified in neurology, epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, brain injury medicine, and public health.
Dr. Etienne is a Forbes contributor and an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant with the National Football League.
