Umashankkar Kannan, M.D., M.B.A., FACS, DABOM, is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained minimally invasive bariatric surgeon. Dr. Kannan completed his residency in general surgery at BronxCare Health System, New York, NY and Fellowship training in minimally invasive bariatric surgery at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, New York, NY. He joined NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan in 2021 and has faculty appintments at both New York Medical College and Metropolitan. Dr. Kannan has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and maintains membership in various professional organizations.

    Teaching Responsibilities

    Dr. Kannan is involved in teaching of residents in the general surgery residency program at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan and medical students from School of Medicine at New York Medical College. He devised the robotic surgery curriculum for the general surgery residents at Metropolitan.
