After ten years in clinical practice, Pamela Ludmer, M.D., M.M.E.L., returned to academic medicine, where she gradually took on more leadership roles, most recently dean for undergraduate medical education.

After the tragic deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Dr. Ludmer proposed the creation of an Anti-Racism, Anti-Bias, and Health Inequities Committee at the SOM, which she subsequently chaired. Outcomes of that work have included: a complete review of the M.D. program curriculum with implementation of new programs on structural competency; the development of educational milestones for diversity, equity, and inclusion; expanded attention to LGBTQ health and disabilities; the creation of the grant-funded Transformative Education Leadership Program: Combating Systemic Racism and Implicit Bias through Medical Education; and a newly approved Health Equity Leadership Area of Concentration, which she co-directs.

Furthermore, Dr. Ludmer engaged multiple faculty, administrative, and student stakeholders to implement a fully redesigned and integrated curriculum, which was launched in AY 2022.

Additionally, Dr. Ludmer is a certified leadership coach, with a focus on physician women in leadership. She is one of the co-creators and Program Director for the American Medical Women’s Association ELEVATE Leadership Certification Program for physician women.
