We are excited to announce Dr. Prabhakaran as the Section Chief for Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, overseeing emergency general surgery, trauma, and surgical critical care at Westchester Medical Center Health System (WMCHealth).
As Trauma Medical Director of Westchester Medical Center, Dr. Prabhakaran leads the only Level I Trauma Center in the Hudson Valley Region serving a population of over 2 million. Caring for critically ill trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care surgery with board certifications in General Surgery and Surgery Critical Care, Dr. Prabhakaran has been an integral part of the fabric of WMCHealth for the past 7 years. Under his leadership, the Adult Trauma Program of WMC recently underwent successful reverification as the only Level I Trauma Center in the entire Hudson Valley and the program has grown exponentially over the last few years.
He is active in the education of fellows, residents, and medical students and serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery within the New York Medical College and Program Director for WMCHealth’s Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. His research interests are focused on traumatic brain injury and outcomes in trauma/surgical critical care, and he is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters. Dr. Prabhakaran actively serves on both regional and national committees in the field of trauma and has been an invited speaker to numerous local, regional, national, and international meetings to share his expertise in the field of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
