Each month, the Neighborhood Science Seminar Series will feature sessions led by distinguished experts, covering a diverse range of topics including neuroscience, cardiovascular studies, degenerative diseases, and more. These sessions will serve as a forum for the innovators at the institutions to have a greater opportunity to shape the future together.

The inaugural session of the seminar series will showcase Aarti Sharma, Ph.D., associate director of Motor Neuron Diseases at Regeneron. With more than 15 years of experience in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, Dr. Sharma brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying fatal motor neuron diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy, with the goal of developing effective therapeutic interventions.

Prior to joining Regeneron, Dr. Sharma completed her graduate studies at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom, followed by post-doctoral training at Columbia University's Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center under the mentorship of their director Neil Shneider, M.D., Ph.D. In addition to her research endeavors, Dr. Sharma is also deeply committed to STEM education, regularly volunteering with organizations such as BioBus and iGEM.

The Neighborhood Science Seminar Series represents a collaborative effort to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and drive scientific innovation. By bringing together experts from academia, industry, and beyond, both institutions aim to create a vibrant community where ideas thrive and partnerships flourish.
