Call Responsibilities

Calls are done only on weekends (Saturday morning through Sunday evening) and holidays, in 12-hour shifts. Two residents are on call together. The senior resident is primarily responsible for our Psychiatric Emergency Department, and the junior resident is primarily responsible for the inpatient service. All residents participate in weekend and holiday call throughout the year.

The call shifts are: Saturday 8 AM to 8 PM, Saturday 8 PM to Sunday 8 AM, and Sunday 8 AM to 8 PM.

Weeknight overnight coverage, Sunday night through Friday night, is provided by a Night Float team – consisting of PGY 1 and PGY 2 residents - scheduled for a two-week block.  (If needed, PGY 3 and PGY 4 residents may be scheduled for only one week of Night Float each year.)

An attending is in house at all times, for supervision and consultation.
